CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETATION

Consecutive interpretation requires that the speaker stop speaking every 15 to 20 seconds to allow an interpreter to repeat the speaker’s remarks in another language. The speak-stop-interpret pattern is difficult for audiences to follow for more than a few minutes. Another disadvantage of consecutive interpretation is that it necessarily lengthens a meeting.Consecutive interpretation is even more impractical when several different languages are involved.
